Friday Book Recommendation 9

Hello everyone,   Today I want to tell you about a Star Wars book I really enjoyed. It’s called Kenobi and it covers Obi-Wan’s early days on Tatooine as he trains himself basically how not to be a hero anymore. Keeping a low profile doesn’t come easy for him and he ends up drawing a lot more attention the the wants. I won’t go into too much detail but let’s just say there’s plenty of action and excitement. This was easily one of my favorite Star Wars books and if you haven’t read it I highly recommend you do. You Read more…

Friday Book Recommendation 7

Hello everyone,   Since we’ve been talking all about fiction here, I thought I change it up and discuss a nonfiction book I really enjoyed. It’s called Heart of the Sea and it’s the true story Moby Dick was based on. They also made a movie staring Chris Helmsworth based on it. That was quite good as well. I read Heart of the Sea a little while ago. It talks about more than the ship sinking after the whale rams it. It covers everything the survivors went through trying to get to safety and how it affected their lives afterward. Read more…

Subject of the Month September

Hello Everyone, One quick thing. In the interest of not running out of subjects, I’m changing this to subjects of the month. On the first Monday of each month I’ll post a new subject for discussion. Don’t worry, I’ll still be doing a weekly book review. With that out of the way, let’s get to it. This months subject is Science Fantasy: do you love it or hate it? Personally I love it. I’ve actually got an idea for a science fantasy series though I have no idea when I’ll get to it. Star Wars is actually more science fantasy Read more…

Subject of the Week 3

Hello Everyone, In last week’s subject of the week we we discussed our favorite shared worlds. I thought this week I’d go into a little more depth about why I liked reading shared worlds so much when I was a kid and still enjoys them today. The main reason, I suppose, especially when I was younger and into Dungeons and Dragons, is I liked the idea of being able to play in the same world as my favorite characters. I remember getting really excited when a new supplement would come out with one of my favorite character’s game stats in Read more…

Subject of the Week 2

Hello Everyone, If you read Friday’s book review then you’ve probably guessed what today’s subject of the week is going to be. That’s right, we’re talking about shared worlds in fiction. I suppose I should make sure I’m clear about my definition of a shared world. It’s one where multiple authors write books set in the universe but not using the same characters. I’ll start. My favorite is the Forgotten Realms. I started reading Forgotten Realms books in high school, about the same time I got into D&D. I loved the early stuff. The Drizzt books were my favorite. thought Read more…

Subject of the Week 1

Hello Everyone. It’s time for our first subject of the week post. Since my first book recommendation was Science Fiction I thought I’d keep with that theme. So here it is. What’s your favorite Sci-Fi universe and why? I’ll go first. My favorite, despite what Disney has done to it, is still Star Wars. Not so much the new stuff, especially the movies, but the old expanded universe novels and comics. Personally I think it’s a great playground, if only they’d give creators more of a free hand. There’s so much lore and rich history that could be developed into Read more…
