Hello Everyone,
In last week’s subject of the week we we discussed our favorite shared worlds. I thought this week I’d go into a little more depth about why I liked reading shared worlds so much when I was a kid and still enjoys them today.
The main reason, I suppose, especially when I was younger and into Dungeons and Dragons, is I liked the idea of being able to play in the same world as my favorite characters. I remember getting really excited when a new supplement would come out with one of my favorite character’s game stats in it. Much as I liked learning more about the heroes, it was always the villains I liked most.
Especially Dark Elves. I got a boxed set all about Drizzt’s home city one year for my birthday and I still remember spending hours pouring over all the details and of course the amazing art. One thing D&D did really well was art work for their characters. That’s one thing I’ve tried hard to emulate in my cover designs and as I plan things going forward.
Let me know what you think. Did you play in the Forgotten Realms? Or do you still? I haven’t played a game of D&D since high school. Probably don’t even remember the rules at this point.
