Hello everyone and welcome to the Friday Book Recommendation,
Today I thought I’d move out of the Pathfinder universe and take a look at something from someone else. In fact we’re going halfway around the world to discuss a series written by a japanese author. It’s called the Irregular at the Magic High School and is one of my favorite light novel series. It follows the adventures of a brother and sister who are both powerful wizards. They attend the same magic high school, think high tech Harry Potter, and get into all sorts of adventures.
The writing style is a little different than you get with western fiction. Descriptions tend to be a little lighter and some of the names are so similar I have trouble keeping track of who’s who. But these are minor issues in a great series.
One of the things I particularly liked about it is how the publisher made great use of the stories. They’re told first as novels, then they added a manga series, and finally they made an Anime of the first three story arcs. That’s something I’d like to do with my own fiction. I obviously can’t do an anime on my own, but adding a comic book version of the stories is certainly possible, though expensive.
As always I won’t give any spoilers for those of you that haven’t checked the series out in any of its various forms. If you haven’t, I do recommend you give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed and I’m sure you won’t be either.
