Hello everyone,
I just finished the novel Echo Burning by Lee Child. It’s part of his Jack Reacher thriller series. This is the first book I’ve finished for a reading challenge I started last week. The goal is to read 50 pages a day. If you’re interested you can follow the daily posts on my blog, link in the description. I’m sure I won’t reach my target everyday, but I aim to try. I’ll also be reviewing each book as I finish it.
Now I know some of you are think, Hey, you write fantasy and science fiction, how come you’re reading a thriller?
There are a lot of reasons, the main one being that I really like reading thrillers and reading nothing but fantasy and science fiction gets boring. The second reason is that thriller authors are really good a pacing and that’s what keeps you turning the pages. I try to use thriller pacing in my stories and I think that helps keeps things moving at a good clip.
Anyway, back to the book. This one is kind of a slow burn, but once it gets going, it really goes. It opens with Reacher hitchhiking in Texas. A beautiful hispanic woman picks him up. She’s in trouble and over the course of their drive he coaxes her story out.
It seems her husband is abusing her and she wants Reacher to do something about it. He’s reluctant, but eventually agrees to come to her family’s ranch to see what he can do.
Things escalate quickly from there and the bodies start to drop as the action picks up. If I say anything more I’ll ruin it for you, but suffice it to say that if you like thrillers, pick this book up, you won’t regret it.
On the other hand, of you like fantasy, you can find all my books on my website, jamesewisher.com
Until next time,
Goodbye
