Censorship is Also Bad

The Day – 9-26-20

Another quiet day yesterday. We’re actually having a taste of Indian Summer here. The temperature reached 80 yesterday and it’s supposed to get there again today. The warm weather seems so strange with the trees changing color, but it happens every year.

After lunch I started on a new project, a Sci-fi short story for a writing class I’m taking. Once it’s done, I’ll be offering it for free to my newsletter subscribers, so if you haven’t joined already, be sure to sign up.

Censorship is Bad

Much like the book burning story this yesterday, I can’t believe I need to point this out. The current target is Joe Rogan. He recently signed a huge deal to distribute his podcast through Spotify. Now their employees are threatening to go on strike unless they censor his non-pc opinions. The guy’s a comedian. Censoring his more controversial opinions means getting rid fo the stuff that makes him interesting.

I mean, what galaxy brain said, “I know, we just paid 100 million dollars for the most successful podcast on the planet. I think we should get to work on screwing it up.”

Here’s thought of my own. How about if you don’t like Joe or anyone else for that matter, you don’t watch him?

Some book offends you? Take Larry Flint’s advise and don’t read it.

Don’t try and mess it up for the people that do enjoy it. Just move on with your life. How hard is that?

Watching the news lately the answer seems to be really hard.

As a writer and believer in free speech, much of what I’m seeing, especially from the big tech companies, is horrifying. So many busy bodies out there.

I’d like to end this rant with a quote from one of my favorite comedians. At the start of one of his stand up specials, Raw, I think, Eddie Murphy looks out over the audience and says, “Anybody out there that’s easily offended, get the fuck out now.”

Sometimes I’d like to tell that to the whole country.

Okay, rant over.

We’ll end with a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 1,232 with 11 days to go. Thanks everyone for your support.

Talk to you tomorrow.
