The Day – 9-27-20

Yet another quiet day yesterday. I made a run down to the farmers market to get some sweet corn for supper and pumpkins for decoration. It was a sunny day and the foliage looks amazing. There were quite a few people out and about. I saw a bunch of classic cars. Probably people going out for one last ride before winter arrives. It’s crazy that it’s still in the eighties during the day. Of course it can’t last.

After a nice lunch I made it to my writing desk around 2:00 and managed 6 pages on the sci-fi short story I’m working on. The rest of the story is clear in my head so hopefully I can finish it today.

I also planned out my next video. It’s basically going to be a discussion about how the Hidden Tower came to be written.

Misfits of Demon King Academy Anime Review

The Misfits of the Demon King Academy anime is based on the light novel series of the same name. It follows Anos, the reincarnated demon king, as he attends a school for elite demons designed to find the person with the greatest potential to be the next demon king. Naturally Anos is totally over-powered, unstoppable, and generally poorly regarded by the elite demons already at the school. No one believes he really is who he claims despite his overwhelming power and knowledge of things only someone that lived 2,000 years ago could know.

There are a ton of fights, he quickly acquires several female companions, and  there’s a rival that becomes his friend. Basically this anime hits all the tropes dead on. There are plenty of people that will tell you it’s bad because of that.

I disagree.

This anime is a power fantasy, pure and simple, and for fans of that sort of anime, it will scratch their itch perfectly. And that’s the point. Not everything has to be unique or deep or thoughtful. Sometime you just want to watch an OP hero crush the jerks that get in the way, get the girls, and save the world. Anos does all of that while being far nicer than any demon king should be.

So if you’re a fan of Power Fantasy anime, check this one out. It’s a fine example of the genre. I give it a recommend.
