The Day – 10-3-20

We had another cold, drizzly Fall day yesterday. That’s actually okay considering how far behind we are on rain. Not that it makes the day any more pleasant.

At least I felt better which helped my focus.

After a nice steak lunch, I made it to my writing desk around 1:30 and managed a solid 5 pages. I’m starting to get a feel for this story which helps.

The Vampire Hunter D Series

No discussion of vampire series could be complete without this one. It’s probably my favorite of all the vampire series. And it got the full treatment, novels, manga, and anime. The only thing it’s missing is a live action movie.

The series follows the half-vampire D as he travels across a futuristic, post-apocalyptic wasteland fighting monsters and undead of all sorts. It’s never said outright, but the assumption is that the D is for Dracula. Given how powerful D is, it makes sense that his father would be the strongest vampire ever.

The two anime movies are based on the first and third novels in the series. I enjoyed both movies, but the books are much better. I think so anyway. As to the manga, I have to admit I haven’t read it yet. I’m only up to I think number 10 in the novels. I’ve enjoyed them all so far, though the setup is often very similar from one book to the next.

I’m also planning a project that’s kind of a riff on this series. At least the setting is like it. Not sure when I’ll actually get to writing given how much else I have planned.

Anyway, if you futuristic action novels with a supernatural twist, I highly recommend this series.

Finally a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 1,336 with 5 days to go. Maybe we can get to 1,400. Fingers crossed.
