The Day - 6-6-20 - James E. Wisher

The Day – 6-6-20

Yesterday was a perfect day. Or at least as close to one as I’m apt to get. gorgeous weather and no errands to run. Other than a quick trip to the post office I didn’t even leave the yard. The only problem I ran into was one of my outdoor faucets is broken. Installing a new one should be no problem.

After an excellent lunch and an episode of MI-5 I got to my writing desk early and managed a solid 6 pages.

I also finished the eighth book of the Vampire Hunter D series. I very much enjoyed it and if you haven’t taken a look you’re defining missing out. The first book is actually the basis for the first anime only it with a lot more detail. One of the most interesting things about the books, after the story itself of course, is the author commentary in the back. He talks a lot about how the old Hammer horror movies stoked his interest in monster stories. Another thing I found really interesting is the author hates most anime. Is that even allowed in Japan?

Since I don’t have a ton of news to share with you guys from yesterday, I wanted to talk about an article I read in the Wall Street Journal on Friday. It’s on the front page and is about an author that wrote about the virus and how it might not be as bad as everyone claims. Amazon refused to publish it, claiming it violated so of their rules on Corona Virus misinformation. Luckily for the author he’s Twitter friends with Elon Musk who went off on Amazon cleaning it was censorship. Amazon promptly claimed they’d made a mistake and the book got published.

Now, I love Amazon as a buyer. I’ve been a Prime member since it became a thing. And I appreciate that as an author, they’re one of the main reasons I have a career. That said, stories like this are the reason I left Kindle Select and went wide with all my books. Given their power to destroy you, even by mistake, it’s insane not to build up an audience on other platforms. One of my goals is to find enough readers on non-Amazon sites that if, Heaven forbid, I ever got blocked from Amazon, I could still survive. I want to be as many places as possible with as many revenue streams as possible.

Anyway, let’s end, as always, with a preorder update. We’ve reached 443 with 12 days to go. Thanks everyone for your support.

Talk to you tomorrow.
