The Day – 8-16-20
Yesterday was a much better day than Saturday, mostly because I didn’t feel like crap all morning. We had a cool start to the day so I went out early and did some yard work. It doesn’t seem like we’ve gotten that much rain yet the grass just keeps growing. Happily the Japanese Beetles seem to have run their course. I only found one yesterday and I think five the day before. Anyway, after doing the trimming I was beat and rested until after lunch and a movie, a review to follow tomorrow. I made it to my writing desk around 2:00 and managed another 6 pages. A good day for sure.
The Armor Trap Review
Okay, this is the novel I’ve been reading for the past two weeks. And if that sounds like a long time to read a novel, you’re not wrong. I’m never comfortable saying another author’s work is bad, but this was certainly not to my taste. The first fifty pages are kind of boring. And later on when things speed up, there are still things that hold it back. For example, the author doesn’t seem overly familiar with the return key. I read one paragraph that ran from the bottom of one page, across the next page, and over to the third page. Probably over five hundred words in a single wall of text. I don’t know if there was any important information in the paragraph, but I probably didn’t get it because I started skimming a third of the way through the second page.
As for the big twist, I saw it coming like five chapters in. This book was published in the 90s so maybe back then this particular plot device hadn’t been used so many times. I don’t know. I won’t give it away in case any of you actually want to read the book yourselves.
I’ll sum up the book like this. Reading it felt like work. That’s really not a good thing. I’m throughly looking forward to starting something new tonight. I really should have quit after the first hundred pages, but I can’t seem to just give up. When I start a book I feel like I have to finish it. I think in over 2,000 novels I’ve only quit on a handful.
Sadly, I can’t give The Armor Trap a recommend.
Finally a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 377. Thanks everyone for all your support. It means the world to me.
Talk to you tomorrow.
