The Day – 8-17-20
Yesterday was pretty quiet. I puttered around the house in the morning and got my books ready to go to the copyright office. For lunch I fixed ham and pancakes which were delicious. After that I watched an old adventure movie which I’ll review tomorrow, and made it to my writing desk around 1:30. The writing went well and I managed another 6 pages.
Legend of Korra Review Part 1
I know I said yesterday I was going to start a new novel last night, but instead I watched the first two episodes of The Legend of Korra on Netflix. I had seen the first Avatar series years ago, but never watched the sequel. The first series was great by the way. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend checking it out. It’s one of the best animated series out there.
Okay, back to Korra. I’d seen a few reviews that indicated that this series wasn’t as good as the first. Not surprising given how good the first one was. Anyway, now that it’s on Netflix, I figured it was time to see for myself.
I really liked the first two episodes. Basically it introduces you to the new Avatar, a girl named Korra who has tremendous physical skills, no patience, and little interest in the spiritual aspects of her destiny. Basically, she’s a jock, but she has a good heart. In the first episode she travels to the capital city to find her airbending teacher. Naturally she gets into trouble the moment she arrives. Her teacher wants to send her home, but she convinces him to let her stay and promises to behave herself.
The second episode finds her chafing under her master’s sedate teaching style. She eventually sneaks out to watch professional bending matches, basically spectator sports played with magic. She ends up on a team and uses the skills her airbending teacher taught her to help the team win and impressing her master at the same time.
All in all, I’m impressed with the series’s start. Hopefully it continues with this quality. I’ll report more as I watch the episodes.
We’ll end with a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 421. Thanks everyone for your support.
Talk to you tomorrow.
