The Day – 9-28-20
Yesterday was a video day. At least the morning and early afternoon got consumed by making a new video. In this case a little over one minute overview of the first book in my Portal Wars Saga. If you want to watch it, I linked to it on the book page.
I thought anyone interested might like hearing me talk about how it came to be. Then again, maybe not, but who knows. It’s there for anyone that wants to take a look.
My plan is to make a video for every book I’ve published. Hopefully by the end of the year. We’ll see. I find producing a videos incredibly stressful. Talking in public has always been one of my phobias. This isn’t quite as bad since i can’t see anyone’s reaction but still, it’s far from my favorite thing.
And that’s one of the reasons I’m doing it. I think forcing myself out of my comfort zone is a good thing. Learning new skills creates new neural pathways in your brain that hopefully will also lead to new ways of thinking about stories.
Anyway, after getting my video uploaded to YouTube and Facebook, I got back to work on my short story. And I finished it. Now I just have to send in for the teacher to read.
It’s weird, I don’t get nearly as nervous at the prospect of sharing my writing as I do making videos. Maybe because I’ve always been told I have a bad voice.
Hopefully, if I keep producing videos, I’ll get more comfortable which should lead to better results, which should make me more comfortable still. It’s a virtuous circle.
Or maybe I’ll just get sick of it and quit. : )
I’ll end with a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 1,265 with 9 days to go. Thanks everyone for your support.
Talk to you tomorrow.
