Today my story continues in a most unlikely place for a writer, math class. If you missed Parts 1 and 2 you can read them here and here
Math is not my best subject.
And by that I mean I absolutely suck at it.
So when the girl I sat next to in math class asked if I liked Dungeons and Dragons I was happy for the change of subject. At the time I didn’t know a thing about it. When she explained it was a game where everyone worked together to tell a story I was intrigued.
Then I saw the dice and a rule book as thick as some of the novels I was reading.
That daunted me a little, but I kept learning.
Eventually we got separated by the teacher since we weren’t exactly listening to her. I never did get a chance to play in her group, but I played in others. I loved making up stories and running people through them.
The math wasn’t even that hard.
At this point I was reading two books a week and making up my own role playing game adventures.
What I wasn’t doing was writing actual stories. English class was still a nightmare as far as writing went.
That all changed senior year when my teacher let me write whatever I wanted for my short stories. I think it’s fair to say my senior English teacher changed my life.
Did any of you play Dungeons and Dragons? Let me know what your favorite adventure was. I’d live to hear about it and your group.
