Hi, everybody,
I know I haven’t been very active on this blog, but today I thought I’d tell you a story.
My story.
I’ve always loved stories. When I was little my favorite thing was getting read to. I remember having this book that came with a cassette tape that read the story so you could follow along.
Unfortunately, reading on my own wasn’t something I enjoyed. Most of my reading was books assigned by my teachers. To say that their tastes didn’t mesh with mine would be putting it mildly. The books were boring and reading in my mind became associated with work.
That’s not a good place to be.
My not loving reading continued for years. Worse, it turned into a real hatred of writing. Writing in english class was so rigid and tedious I despised every assignment. That hatred manifested in the form of bad grades. It was so bad I actually ended up in a remedial writing class.
If things had continued that way for my entire school career I probably wouldn’t have ended up as a writer.
But in ninth grade two wonderful things happened.
Next week my story continues in The Little Library of Books That Didn’t Suck.
Stay tuned.
