The Day – 10-10-20

Yesterday was kind of a crazy day weather wise. We had wicked thunderstorms in the evening. Nothing compared to what people are dealing with down south, but strong for us.

The morning at least was quiet.

I fixed a nice stew for lunch then watched an action movie staring Michael Jai White. He’s one of my favorites.

Honestly, I could never figure out why he never became a bigger star. The guy’s got a ton of charisma and martial arts skills for days. He even played Spawn for heaven’s sake.

Fun fact: when I created Moz, the retired ranger from my Dragonspire Chronicles series, Michael’s the actor I had in mind to play him in the movie running through my head.

I’ll do a full review of the movie at some point. I just don’t want to get derailed on my horror themed posts right now.

After the movie, I made it to my writing desk around 1:30 and managed another 6 pages.

My Favorite Demon

I’m a huge fan of Clive Barker so it should be no surprise that Pinhead is my favorite demon. I still remember the reading The Books of Blood back in high school. There were some really cool stories in those collections. That’s another review I’ll have to do one day.

Anyway, back to Hellraiser. Some of you may not know this, but originally, Pinhead wasn’t actually evil. He was always into pain, but in the first two movies he only came for the ones that summoner him. In the second one, he even stopped his cenobites from hurting the little girl that was used to manipulate the puzzle box. I remember the quote when he did it.

He said, “We are not summoned by hands. We are summoned by intentions.”

Pinhead’s voice always gave me chills. I know they replaced him eventually, but Doug Bradley will always be Pinhead for me.

The later movies turned him into a real demon who slaughtered innocent people who had nothing to do with him. While the movies are fine for what they are, I never liked that change in his character.

Anyway, if you like horror, I recommend the Hellraiser series, especially the first two movies.
