Goblin Slayer Manga Vol 1 Review - James E. Wisher

Goblin Slayer Manga Vol 1 Review

The Day – 9-23-20

So yesterday was crazy busy. First I had to move a bunch of furniture around so the exterminator could reach the windows. He comes twice a year to put down some stuff that kills flies and hornets before they can get in the house as well as filling a bait box to kill mice outside. It’s not terribly expensive and we haven’t had a mouse in the house since he started doing it.

When we went over to treat the rental, I found the smoke detectors beeping like crazy, so I had to replace a bunch of batteries. Not a huge deal, but a pain all the same.

After a nice lunch and an episode of Rust Valley Restorers, I headed for my office around 1:30. The afternoon was spent on line editing. It is so boring and so necessary. I booked a spot with my editor for next week, so I can’t be screwing around. Got to get the line edits done by Sunday. Shouldn’t be a problem since I’m over halfway done now.

Goblin Slayer Manga Vol 1 Review

I didn’t actually buy this book to read for pleasure. I wanted to compare it to the light novel version which I also have. See I’m planing to turn my novels into manga at some point and I wanted to see how the two compared.

The first section of the manga is around 96 pages and it covers the first 36 pages of the light novel. That surprised me. I had assumed that the story would be more compressed, but they didn’t leave much out.

That’s one of the things I like most about manga. American comics sometimes leave too much information out. Manga gives you more room to breathe.

Anyway, I already knew the plot from both he novel and anime so there were no surprise twists. That said, it was presented well, the art was fantastic. With dynamic action and just enough background so you knew where you were, but not so much that it muddied the image.

There was a little bit of nudity, like on three panels, but hardly enough to offend anyone. Especially if you’ve seen Berserk.

If you’re into manga I highly recommend Goblin Slayer Vol 1.

We’ll end as always with a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 1,191 with 14 days to go. I think we’ve got a real chance of beating the preorders on The Great Northern War. Thanks everyone.

Talk to you tomorrow.
