The Day – 9-7-20
I hope you all had a great Labor Day, or at least as great a day as the current circumstances allow. To give you a hint about how great mine was, I went grocery shopping. There was nothing going on anywhere.
I take that back. The bar in town had a BBQ and a guy with a guitar. That was our celebration.
At least the store wasn’t very busy. I got most of what I needed, including fresh, local apples for the first pie of the year. Looking forward to that later this week. And yes, I do bake. I’m not the best baker in the world, but I still try.
After groceries, I went looking for lunch. And looking and looking. The first diner I tried was closed. So was the second. And the third. Finally I said the hell with it and went to 5 Guys. They were open and the food delicious.
I made it home about 1:00, unpacked, watched an episode of American Ninja Warrior that, judging from the crowd, must have been filmed pre-Covid, and made it to my writing desk about 2:30. I managed a solid 5 pages. Not bad for an errand day.
Firestorm Vol 1 & 2 Review
So this review covers the first dozen issues plus issue 0. I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the character, but Firestorm is actually two kids that merge to form Firestorm, a hero capable of transmuting matter and hurling fire. The first two volumes cover their creation, how they’re separated, and how a creepy corporation wants to use them while proliferating the technology to create more like him to other countries. Naturally terrorists get ahold of the tech and start blowing stuff up as they are want to do.
I won’t get into too much detail about the plot, but it’s really interesting. And the art is fantastic, especially in the first volume where Ethan Van Sciver is handling the pencils. His work is top notch.
Anyway, if you like he character and lots of international action, this is a book for you. The first two volumes of Firestorm get a recommend from me.
Finally a preorder update. The Portal Thieves is up to 881. Thanks everyone for your support.
Talk to you tomorrow.
