The Day - 7-16-20 - James E. Wisher

The Day – 7-16-20

Yesterday was grocery day. The store was busy and this was the first time I noticed people not wearing masks. Not many of them, I think I counted five altogether. More than usual were also ignoring the arrows telling you which direction to go up and down the isles. Those people annoy me not so much because I care if they wear a mask or follow the arrows, but because I do both those things and other people ignoring them makes me feel like an idiot for not ignoring them as well. If that makes sense. They did get the stink eye from a few people which made me feel a little better. : )

After groceries I came straight home. I just couldn’t face another burger and fries. Ironically, that’s what I’m having for lunch today.

After lunch and a rest, I made it to my writing table around 2:00 and managed 5 pages.

A little later in the afternoon I went out to water the flowers and found the Japanese Beetles were still out in full force despite my trap catching hundreds of them. They don’t bother the flowers so much as this one small evergreen. I don’t know why they like it so well, but I must have picked fifty of the nasty things off of it.

As promised, last night I finished The Pirate. It was an interesting book. A non-fiction, true crime story about a brutal killer. it was only about 70 pages and some of those had images. Anyway, this guy signed on to an Oyster Ship and murdered and robbed the crew before dumping the bodies at sea. This is the tidbit I found most interesting. Stop now if you don’t want a spoiler.

Since they couldn’t find the bodies, the prosecutor feared the killer might get off if tried for murder. Instead they charged him with piracy, another capital crime and one easily provable. I thought that was pretty clever. I believe there are six books in this series. I’ll have to check out the rest of them.

Finally a preorder update. We’re up to 649 on The Great Northern War. Thanks very much everyone for your support.

Talk to you tomorrow.
