Yesterday was kind of a boring, but still interesting day. It started out early when the HVAC guy showed at 8:30 to service the air conditioner. That took about half an hour. An hour after that the lawn mowing guy showed up so I decided to wait until he finished to get them mail. So a busy morning that required me to do almost nothing.
For lunch I splurged on a hot dog and french fries which were delicious. Hot dogs are a treat for me and I try not to have them more than once a month.
Having finished the third season of MI-5, I decided to switch shows and start the newest season of Shetland. That is a series I can recommend without a second thought. The acting is great, the stories interesting, and the setting beautiful in a desolate sort of way. The seasons are generally six episodes and cover a single case. This is a perfect length. I wish more American mystery series would try the format, but it seems to be an almost exclusively British.
Anyway, I made it to my writing desk around 1:30 and finished the chapter I was working on the day before. That put me at about the middle of the story. Sometime, but not always, I like to go back to the beginning at this point. I’ll evaluate what I’ve done so far to see if everything is making sense and whether I need to add anything. For any writers out there, I highly recommend this technique for any story over say 60,000 words.
I have to finished the cycle today, but I can see that I need to add at least three more scenes to establish what I want to do for the second half of the book.
I still managed 2 pages, but that wasn’t really the point of yesterday’s work.
Finally, we’re up to 537 preorders with 6 days to go. Thanks everyone for your support.
Talk to you tomorrow.
