The Day – 5-23-20

Another gorgeous day yesterday. Sunshine, low seventies, as close to perfect as you’re going to find. We’re totally getting spoiled this week and we’re going to pay for it next week with 90 degree days and thunderstorms. But who cares, I’m enjoying what we have while we have it.

After a quiet morning and a nice lunch after which I watched Battle Angel Alita. I’d heard good things about the movie so I DVRd it during a free HBO trial. I have to say the reviews weren’t wrong. I really enjoyed the movie. The story was good, the special effects well done, and the main character had a nice story arc as she went from knowing nothing about who she was to finding her place in the world. The way it ended left room for a sequel and I hope they make one. Assuming anyone ever makes another movie. With the way things are going, heaven only knows what’s going to happen.

After the movie I went to my writing desk and managed another 5 pages on the new novel.

And now on to a less pleasant subject. Tech censorship, again. I swear, with the way things are going, I could write a post about this subject every day. I promise I won’t, but I could. Today’s shout out for bad behavior goes to Facebook for deleting links to a small video hosting site called Brighteon. I’ve never been there. Don’t use the sight. I have no skin in this fight, but I will still call out the bullshit when I see it.

The idea that one company can try and tell another what they can and can’t host on their servers is ridiculous. Happily Brighteon told them to pound sand and kept up the video that Facebook objected to, something about the virus I guess. The content doesn’t actually matter, as long as it wasn’t illegal, people should be free to view it and make up their own minds about its quality.

But no, our tech overlords have decided it’s not allowed and that’s that. If you don’t like it, tough.

I don’t know about all of you, but that sort of attitude pisses me off. I hate being told what to do like I’m a child too stupid to make up my own mind.

This is the same company that tells me to spend more money advertising my page to get likes so they can charge me even more money to ensure the people that follow my page can see what I post. No, thank you. I use Facebook for advertising my books, author groups, and as a notification system for followers who happen to check the page. That’s it. And if I didn’t need it for advertising, I wouldn’t go there at all.

Okay, rant over.

Let’s end this post on a bright note. We’re up to 265 preorders on The Hidden Tower including another on Apple Books. Many thanks to everyone for your support.

Talk to you tomorrow.
