Thursday was absolutely gorgeous here. High sixties, sun shine, perfect. I had to go on a grocery run and the store was busy. The streets were busy. The restaurant where I got take out was busy. Hell even the golf course had people walking the fairways. It seemed everyone wanted to get outside and I didn’t blame them. If not for the masks on everyone and the distinct lack of hand sanitizer and Clorox, it might have been a normal Spring day.
I wonder sometimes whether we’ll ever had a truly normal day again. Before this stupid pandemic, I never thought much about looking around and seeing people’s faces, but now I find I miss it. The friendly smiles are gone, replaced by an instinctive desire to edge away from anyone looking at you, like their gaze might carry the virus. The fear everywhere sometimes gets oppressive. I understand it’s for a good reason, but still I find myself getting depressed by the state of things some times.
But, I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my mental state. Heaven nows there are enough other things to worry about.
On the plus side, the north country just got the go ahead to begin phase one of opening back up. That doesn’t actually effect me much since I work from home anyway, but I’m sure people that are going to be allowed back to work will be happy. I always thought locking down the sparsely populated Adirondacks the same way as NYC made little sense. I mean, my county has only had like a couple hundred confirmed infections and not a single death. Go Essex county.
Anyway, after my shopping trip I managed 4 pages on the new novel.
