New Youtube Rules - James E. Wisher

New Youtube Rules

Since there really isn’t much to tell you about my day, I’ll just say I managed 4 pages during my writing time and leave it at that.

One quick update. The Great Northern War and the Portal Thieves have both passed ACX quality control and should be up for sale in the net couple weeks. I’ll be sure to let you all know when.

Now, the meat of the post. I got an email the other day from Youtube saying they’re changing some of their rules. One of the things they mentioned was putting ads on videos that weren’t part of the partner program. Not a big deal you might be thinking.

But it is. Some people, me for example, have no intention of ever joining the partner program. I started my channel as a way to talk directly to you all about my writing and other things that interested me. Making money from the videos was never part of the plan.

Other people maybe aren’t big enough yet to join, but might have a video go viral for one reason or another. It seems to me that if a creator makes something that takes off then Youtube puts ads on it without giving them a penny of the profits, that’s just wrong. They’re taking advantage of someone else’s work to make money.

It annoys me enough that I’m planning to focus more on Facebook from now on. I’ll still post my videos to Youtube, but I won’t link to them anymore.

Anyway, that’s my rant for today.

We’ll end with a preorder update. The Master of Magic is up to 1331. Thanks everyone.

Talk to you tomorrow.
