March 8th Newsletter Repost

Hello everyone,

So I was scrolling through Twitter the other day and came across a post from a writer saying how hard it was to get the words down some days. I didn’t comment or anything, but it did get me thinking about a story my Grandfather used to tell.

When he was a teenager, in the fall, he picked apples at the local orchard. I assume on weekends since he had school during the week.

Anyway, here was his day. Up at 5:00 to work in the cow barn for two hours. Wash up, eat breakfast, and walk to the orchard where he picked apples for 8 hours. Finally back home for another two hours in the barn.

When the first frost got close, they’d “let” him and the other pickers work for ten hours. He said it like he was getting a treat.

And do you know how much he made for picking apples? $0.25 an hour.

Whenever I think the writing is hard, I remember this story and thank goodness I’m lucky enough to make up stories for you guys as my job.

Do you have any family stories that help you stay motivated? If you do I’d love to hear them. comment and let me know.
